Leading the Holt High School community
Dr. Daniel Dickens, Principal
I am so excited to join the Holt Family and its long legacy of tradition and excellence. Our school has the potential to strengthen this community through a purposeful and dedicated commitment to the students we serve. I believe that each student deserves the opportunity to learn and grow in a safe and supported environment empowered by teachers who invest in them as the unique individuals they are. This is my vision for Holt High School.
I grew up in Lawrenceville, Georgia, an eastern suburb of Atlanta. I earned a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts in Teaching from Lee University in Cleveland, Tennessee. I moved to Tuscaloosa in 2003 and attended the University of Alabama where I earned a Ph.D. in Instructional Leadership in 2010. I have been an Assistant Principal at Tuscaloosa County High School for the past eight years. Before that, I taught ten years at Collins Riverside Middle School in Northport and one at Southern Academy in Greensboro.
My wife Christina and I have five children (ages 24 down to 6) and one grandchild. We love to travel and experience the people, places, and especially the food of different cultures. I also enjoy hunting, fishing, and woodworking in my free time.
I am committed to investing my time, knowledge, and abilities in the students and faculty of our school.Thank you, Holt community, for investing in me. Go Ironmen!

Dr. Carmen Drinkard, Assistant Principal
My name is Carmen Drinkard and I am excited to introduce myself as the Assistant Principal at Holt High School. I just moved to Tuscaloosa this summer, and this year begins my 13th year in education. I have been a high school science teacher as well as a dual credit English and history instructor teaching college classes to high school students. This is my third year in administration having served as the assistant principal and Early College High School dean in my previous district.
My “why” for being and educator is I believe that education is a life-long process and am a life-long learner myself. I also firmly believe that all students can achieve success, and it is the responsibility of educators to help students reach their potential.
On a personal note, I am originally from West Texas, but have relocated to Alabama from Texas to move my three children, Carla (10), Michael (8), and Cadence (6), closer to family. I graduated high school in a tiny border town in Texas, and I the completed my Bachelor of Science degree from Sul Ross State University in 2009 followed by a Master of Education degree in 2014 and a Master of Arts in 2017. Currently, I am in the dissertation stage of a Doctorate of Educational Leadership from Texas A&M University.
I am excited to bring my passion and enthusiasm for learning to Holt High School, and I look forward to meeting you all!
